For forensic science:
- To identify probable suspects whose DNA may match the DNA left on evidence left at crime scenes
*
- To identify catastrophe victims
- To establish family relationships*
- To identify endangered species as an aid to wildlife officials
(Can be used for prosecuting poachers)
- To detect any form of bacteria and other organisms that are harmful and therefore may pollute the air, water, soil and food.
- To match the organ donors with recipients to ensure they match in transplant programs
- To determine ancestry for seed or livestock breeds
- To authenticate consumables such as wine
By scientists and/or Doctors:
- To try to find out how things work – for example, how plants and animals grow and develop, or why bone cells are different from muscle cells and so on.
- To help figure out what disease is resulting in that illness
- To help people regain their health
